There I was. Lying in the tub of a luxury hotel room in Amsterdam. A room that, rationally speaking, I couldn't afford at the time. And yet there I was, following guidance I'd received after an intense plant ceremony. I was there to take care of myself. To surround myself with beauty and self love. To make a statement to the Universum making it clear that from that point forward I was putting myself first. Self care was going to be my number one priority. It turned out to be a choice that would change the course of my life.
So what is Self Care any way?
Self care is a Super Power attributed to the Empress Archetype in the Tarot. The 4th major Arcana card in the tarot. Contrary to what modern culture would have us believe, self care is much more than planning occasional manis, pedis or massages. Although a good spa day never hurt anybody either. But however pretty your nail art may be, self care is really about taking good care of your entire SELF. Your HIGHER SELF. Listening to the needs and desires fo your soul. And those, my dear, go way beyond the occasional hot stone massage.
Sure, my opening words may have given you the impression that I too was in that luxury hotel tub to indulge myself. But what I was really doing was communicating with my higher self, my soul, and asking her what she really needed. What makes her happy, shine, excited. Why she had taken the journey to Earth again, this time incarnated as me, Daniëlle
This, literal and figuratively speaking, hot bath formed the basis for drastic shifts within my business. teveel geven naar beter in balans geven From consistent over giving to balanced giving and receiving. My prices went up. My clients changed. And I started doing more things I really loved. I also made a deal with myself that I was going to take myself out on regular self care weekends to catch up with my soul, to rest and refuel. The effect blew my mind. 9 months later my income had quadruppled.
How do you take really good care of yourself?
This experience taught me that, as one of my favorite spiritual teachers Lee Harris likes to say, Self Care isn't a luxury, it's fuel. The more fuel you have the better you can take care of others. The kinder you are to yourself, the kinder you can be to your surrounding. The more abundance you generate, the more you have to share. The healthier you are, the more energy you have to serve the world.
Self Care is consciously creating moments of relaxation where you can communicate with your HIGHER SELF about what your physical and spiritual self need to grow, bloom and thrive.
Mothering yourself the way you wished you had been mothered. An extremely healing and nurturing SOUL SUPER POWER to have.

Some people are born nurturers. When you are around them you automatically feel safe, surrounded by beauty, love and warmth. Born mothers. With or without children.
But so many woman, while caring for others, have forgotten to take really good care of themselves as well. To listen to their own needs and recharge when they need, or want, to.
The shadow side of living to take care of others.
Their self worth relies on how much they are needed by others. Their children, partners, employers, clients or parents. Their care and attention can become suffocating, when they behave like martyrs who have completely lost touch with or deny their own needs.
Many of these women come to see me when, for reasons outside of their control, they can no longer care for others, and they have suddenly lost their sense of purpose in life. For example when they become empty nesters or an elderly parent they took care of dies. Often times these women didn't have great mothers themselves, and in an attempt to do better than what they were modeled they overdo things and swing all the way to the other side of the pendulum.
Being able to provide a safe, loving haven for those you love is a beautiful super power. But if you completely lose yourself in the proces, you are living the shadow side of the Empress Archetype. You may have unwillingly become obsessed with family members and your love may just feel like too much to them.

Major Arcana Tarot Card THE EMPRESS
The Empress is the fourth Major Arcana card of the Tarot. She is blessed with several amazing Soul Super Powers, such as being able to create financial abundance, curating beautiful environments, being a great cook or gardener. But her biggest Super Power is without a doubt the healing power of NURTURING.
She is a natural mother for anyone she comes into contact with. Warm, loving, nurturing and safe, she is the girlfriend you'd run to to be comforted by when your boyfriend broke up with you. She'll receive you with a warm embrace, a bowl of chicken soup and tuck you in bed to have a good cry.
If this is your Soul Super Power you are a blessing in the lives of those fortunate enough to be in your radius. A safe haven where they are welcome for a cup of tea, a cuddle and an understanding ear. The world desperately needs loving mother figures like yourself, so please don't forget to love yourself with the same gusto you love everyone around you.
